Man Over Board Drill (our first one in all that time – shame on us…)

In quite blustering weather we decided to do a short run out of Haslar into the Solent and try some Man Over Board (MOB) recovery techniques. For us, the MOB recovery has two three: firstly, locate the MOB casualty, set off an alarm and manoeuvre the boat in a position to be able to recover the casualty; secondly, bring the casualty back on board; and thirdly, give medical assistance to the casualty as required.

In this short video we show our attempts and successes in drilling phase 1 – single handedly. This means, despite the fact that we were 3 persons on board the person at the helm had to do all on their own. An important thing we were reminded the hard way was to attach a bucket to the fender in order to have a slightly more stable and realistic behaviour of he MOB dummy. Yes, we managed to retrieve the fender and yes, we had some fun…

We Won An Award!!!

Just before Christmas last year we stumbled over an add in a sailing magazine which advertised the Maritime Film Festival in Woodbridge, Norfolk and its Festival Film Competition open for amateurs and pro’s.

“Time to get a reality check about our videos!” Captain Kate thought and re-cut her August 2018 Summer Holiday Part 1  video to fit the competition’s criteria (and to add some bells and whistles to it, of course…).

Much to our surprise, excitement and pride her dull-titled entry “Impressions of a trip from Portsmouth to Salcombe” won a third prize in its category. The judges praised the overall cinematography, the variety of shots and camera angles and the pace of the film as well as the variety of activities.
