In this episode, we bid farewell to the fishing town of Mallaig, where we weathered some intense winds, and set sail on a thrilling voyage around Ardnamurchan Point, heading towards the enchanting destination of Tinker’s Hole.

Join us as we navigate challenging waters, explore breathtaking landmarks, and discover secluded anchorages along the way. Leaving the turbulent winds behind us, we embark on a memorable journey, sailing around the rugged Ardnamurchan Point.

The winds and currents test our skills, but with careful navigation and seamanship, we conquer the elements and continue our voyage towards Tobermory.

Our course leads us to a hidden gem nestled between the beautiful isles of Ulva and Gometra. This lovely anchorage invites us to drop our anchor and immerse ourselves in the tranquil surroundings. With nature as our backdrop, we indulge in the serenity and beauty that surrounds us, cherishing these precious moments on our sailing journey.

The following day, we set sail once again, passing by the captivating Island of Staffa. As we approach, we can’t help but marvel at the magnificence of Fingal’s Cave, a geological wonder that has captivated the hearts of many throughout the ages.

Maneuvering through the intricate pilotage between rocks and the shoal of the Sound of Iona, we navigate with precision and care, allowing us to reach the secluded anchorage of Tinker’s Hole safely.

#16 | Dunvegan to Acairsheid Mhor – Northern Skye, Drams, and Majestic Rock Formations

In this episode, we continue our journey around the captivating Isle of Skye, departing from Dunvegan with newfound excitement and a special guest on board.

Join us as we embark on another memorable chapter filled with breathtaking landscapes, delightful encounters, and remarkable natural wonders.

At the ferry terminal of Uig, we warmly welcome our dear friend Nina, who joins us on Polaris for a couple of days. With renewed camaraderie, we set our course towards the most northerly point of our sailing season, eagerly anticipating the extraordinary sights that await us.

As we round the northern end of Skye, we commemorate this significant milestone with a toast of NcNean’s finest whisky, savouring the moment and the beauty that surrounds us. Entering the majestic Sound of Raasay, we are immediately captivated by the stunning rock formations that grace the landscape. The sheer cliffs and rugged coastal features stand as testaments to the enduring power of nature.

As we sail closer, we are treated to a remarkable sight—the famous Mealt Falls. Cascading over a towering 60-metre cliff, the water plunges into the sea, creating an awe-inspiring spectacle. We capture the mesmerising beauty of this natural wonder, immersing ourselves in the grandeur of the moment.

Seeking a peaceful haven for the night, we anchor in the secluded and picturesque anchorage of Acairsheid Mhor, situated on the serene Isle of Rona. Here, tranquility embraces us as we bask in the serenity of the surroundings. As we explore the area, our hearts soar when we spot a magnificent Sea Eagle gracefully circling high above the rocky cliffs. It is a humbling and unforgettable encounter, reminding us of the abundant wildlife that thrives in these pristine environments.
