#22 | Upgrading Our Boat: Installing an Electric Washdown Pump for Efficient Deck Cleaning

In this episode, we tackle a common challenge faced by sailors – cleaning the anchor chain and washing down the deck after anchoring in muddy grounds. We found a solution that has revolutionised our cleaning process: installing a powerful electric wash-down pump, fed by seawater.

Join us as we share the step-by-step process of installing the washdown pump on Polaris, our reliable Bavaria Cruiser 46 (2017).

We provide detailed explanations, tips, and insights to help fellow sailors who may be facing the same issue or looking to upgrade their deck cleaning system. After careful planning and consideration, we selected the Jabsco Hotshot HD6 Washdown Pump as our go-to choice for its power and reliability.

Alongside the pump, we utilised a range of essential parts, including the Osculati Washdown Deck Connector, Hep2o high-pressure tube and fittings, 19mm sanitation hose, Truedesign y-piece, and various clips and connectors to ensure a secure and efficient installation.

We walk you through the installation process, from mounting the pump in a convenient location to connecting the necessary hoses and fittings. Our experience and expertise make the installation relatively straightforward, and the end result is both pleasing and highly effective.

With the new electric washdown pump in place, we demonstrate how effortlessly and efficiently we can now clean the anchor chain and wash down the deck, saving valuable time and effort. No more struggling with buckets and brushes – just a powerful stream of seawater to handle even the toughest cleaning tasks.

Don’t forget to leave a comment and share your thoughts or any questions you may have about the installation process.

Join us for the exhilarating finale of the 2022 sailing season as we embark on a memorable voyage with our dear friends Fiona and Richard.

Our journey takes us from Tarbert to Campbelltown, Lamlash, and finally to Largs Yacht Haven.

As autumn sweeps across the Clyde, we experience the ever-changing weather that Scotland is known for—moments of sunshine, gentle rains, calm waters, and sudden ferocious gusts that keep us on our toes.

While exploring the Clyde’s enchanting waters, we discover some promising fishing spots. However, our attempts are foiled by the abundance of mackerels. If you have any tips and tricks to share, please leave them in the comments section below. We appreciate any insights!

As we sail, our eyes are treated to a rare sighting—a Royal Navy submarine gracefully making its way to its homeport.

With this episode, we bid farewell to the 2022 sailing season. Wintering at Largs Yacht Haven, we eagerly anticipate the next season, just a few weeks away. The thrill of setting sail once again and the anticipation of new adventures on the horizon keep our spirits high.

Thank you for joining us on this incredible journey, and we sincerely hope you stay with us as we continue to explore the vast expanse of the sea. Let’s embrace the spirit of adventure together!

#20 | Sailing Adventure in Scotland: Farewell to Loch Spelve and Another Run From Bad Weathe

In this episode, join us on our sailing journey as we bid farewell to the breathtaking Loch Spelve and set sail for Oban.

We reflect on 11 days of magnificent sailing and exploration of the enchanting Isle of Skye and the Isle of Mull and we say good bye to our dear friend Nina.

Along the way, we reunite with our dear friends Mark and Asha from the good ship Altor of Down (@AdventureNow) and share heartfelt goodbyes, hoping to meet again next year.

Experience the beauty of the stunning Puilladobhrain anchorage, where we spend a magical night surrounded by nature’s wonders.

However, a sudden change in the weather forecast brings a large depression approaching faster than anticipated. To ensure our safety, we take the decision to head towards the Crinan Canal a few days earlier than planned, just before its winter closure.

As we adapt to the new plan, we eagerly await the arrival of our friends Fiona and Richard, who will join us in the Firth of Clyde instead of Oban. Join us as we settle in Tarbert to seek shelter from the expected high winds and embark on new adventures amidst Scotland’s captivating landscapes.
