Summer Holiday Part 1 – Portsmouth to Salcombe

Summer holiday again – and what a summer! We brought Polaris to Salcombe where Constantin and Jodok competed in the Laser Class at the Salcombe Gin Regatta Week.

On board were our great friends Regula and Markus – both accomplished sailors and racers from Sailing Club Stäfa in Switzerland – Jodok, who joined us from Munich and the usual suspects, Consti, Kathrin and me.

We left Haslar Marina on Wednesday, 1st August and made our way through the Solent, past the Needles out in the Channel across Lyme Bay and into Dartmouth. This was a 24 hours trip, for many on board their first magical night cruise. A stunning sunset, followed by a starry night and a spectacular sunrise in Lyme Bay. Pods of dolphins followed us for hours and we have developed a new technique to film them under water… (it’s amazing!). Close encounters with fishing boats, tankers and the Clipper Race fleet returning from Liverpool. We finally made landfall in Dartmouth and the staff at Dart Marina were welcoming, friendly and helpful as ever after an exciting night.

We spent two days in Dartmouth, caught up with Tom and Clair from Moody Blue and replaced our main halyard. We left Dartmouth early on the Saturday morning tide to round Start Point showing off the „Fun Sail“ (as we call our Gennaker) and spent some relaxing days on a mooring with frequent trips to Salcombe Yacht Club’s bar.
